Explore Town With A Quick Jog
There is nothing better than a new environment to get your spirits up and make your workouts shine. Explore the area, hit up some hot-spots or historic landmarks… on foot! Start up a nice, steady jog. Start and stop as needed to make it pleasurable instead of something you will end up regretting afterward! Doing this will still challenge your heart rate and make for a great interval workout.
Have a Cheat Meal, Not a Cheat Day
It’s time to relax and unwind, but that doesn’t mean you need to indulge in EVERY temptation from sunrise to sunset! Start out your day on the right foot with a healthy breakfast. A healthy smoothie or organic green juice with a piece of fruit or steel cut oatmeal will fire up your metabolism. It’s always better to fuel your body with nutrition first thing in the morning opposed to having a heavy breakfast that will weigh you down for the rest of the day!
If you’re going out to dinner that night with the family or a friend, save your cheat meal for the restaurant. This way you can still feel good but aren’t depriving yourself on your lovely getaway.
Yoga on The Beach
Is sand involved in your summer vacation? There is nothing more peaceful than a nice yoga session on the beach while listening to the waves crash upon the shore. You don’t need to be an avid Yogi to enjoy yoga in the sand. Google some popular moves and bring them with you, or even better, watch some clips of this free yoga video on Amazon! (Free for Prime members. Check it out here) Yoga is more about clearing your head, steadying your focus and centering yourself than anything else. Make it peaceful and relaxing.
Rent a Bicycle
Are you vacationing down the shore or in a bike-friendly area? Rent a bike, and ride it everywhere you go! Ditch the car and take a beach cruiser for a ride to shops or attractions instead. It’s something different and will get you exercising without even knowing it!
Plan Adventurous Activities
Vacations are times to do think outside the box! Get out there and do something different. Plan a hiking trip, surfing lesson or sight-seeing tour to fill up your days. These plans will get you in touch with nature and help you stay active and on track.
Take a Dip
Whether there is a nice pool at your hotel or you’re staying near the ocean, swimming is great for building endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. Taking a dip regularly helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs and tones those muscles.
Pack Your Snacks
Avoid the temptation of eating greasy, fast food while exploring during your day trips and pack some light, healthy snacks to take along with you. An apple or banana, some mixed nuts and a few healthy Lara Bars may be all you need to stay on track while having fun! Bringing your own snacks will help you save some cash, too!
Make Mr. H20 your best friend! On a hot vacation, it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated. Pack enough water bottles (preferably chemical free and eco-friendly stainless steel ones, like these). Pack enough water to last you the day and sip, sip, SIP! Drinking a lot of water can help control cravings, help energize muscles and normalize bowel functions (You know “going” just isn’t the same when you’re away on vacation!)
Use Nature As Your Gym
Don’t spend your vacation days in a stuffy gym! Head to the boardwalk or a nature path and do some interval training with nature as your backdrop. Lunges, squats, push-ups and jumping jacks are much more enjoyable with a fresh breeze in fun, new surroundings.
Pick a New Workout Buddy
So, Aunt Rita is not usually much of a runner? Who cares! There are no rules on vacation! Ask a friend or family member who wouldn’t normally go to the gym and ask them to join you. Switching up your workout buddy is always a fun adventure and makes your routines fly by. And hey, maybe you will change Aunt Rita’s outlook on that ol’ exercising thing!
Get Your Workouts Done Early
Don’t let the black cloud of your impending workout dampen your day. Get it done early so you have the rest of the day to enjoy your activities. Wake up, stretch and hit the pavement!
Keep Your Eye On The Prize
Don’t think of your workouts as a chore. Think of how amazing you will feel when you’re done and how much more you will enjoy the day ahead. Get those exercise endorphins flowing and let that happy, elated feeling set the tone for the rest of your trip. Trust me, you’ll have a better time knowing you took great care of your health and your body along the way!
Have a great trip!
