In an overly-processed, excessively toxic world, it’s hard to stay clean. Clean of all those toxins that are just waiting to fill your body. Our bodies can take a lot of abuse from unhealthy foods, pesticides, poor exercise regimens and toxic skincare products, but the results will eventually surface.
Whether it’s a poor physical appearance or an unstable mental state, the build-up of these toxins can have a dramatic impact on your overall health.
If you’re new to cutting out toxins from your world, It’s important to start out slow and steady for the best chances at consistency and staying with it. A few simple changes can make all the difference in your path to overall health and wellness.

5 Simple Changes To Live A Little Less Toxic
Processed foods: When you walk into your average supermarket, 80% of the foods are processed. If you stay on the outside perimeter of the store, you have a good chance of staying out of the danger zone. Any packaged cookies, crackers, breads, soups, frozen foods, dairy are most often processed.
Processed means altering from its (food) natural state. Some companies claim to do this for “safety reasons” ….however, they are just adding tons of harmful preservatives so our food stays “fresh”, longer.
Almost all mainstream companies use cheap fillers for ingredients so they can mass produce more product for a cheaper cost. Processed meats like bologna, sausage, ham and packaged lunch meats could be detrimental to your health when consumed long term. They are often very high in sodium saturated fat, fillers and calories.
Look at your ingredient list and aim for a short, easily understood list opposed to something foggy and complicated. Remember: Store brands are usually cheaper for a reason. They’re made with more fillers and cheaper ingredients!

Which one do you think is better?
Buy Organic: Yes, it can be more expensive and yes, it’s worth it. Pesticides are not just ON your produce, they are IN your produce (Thank you, genetically modified organisms). It’s not about just washing your fruit and veggies, it’s about purchasing produce that hasn’t been modified with injected, harmful pesticides. If your wallet needs you to be selective about your produce, look up the “Dirty Dozen” and just buy those items as organic if needed.
Say NO to GMOs: A lot of people do not understand GMOs, so they ignore them. I’ll admit, it’s not the easiest concept to grasp, but it is extremely important. Do you want to eat something in its original, natural state or do you want to eat something that has been altered by science? To me, the answer is clear.
Over 80% of GMO crops are engineered to either 1.) resist herbicides — which enables farmers to saturate them with weedkillers during their growth period, in an effort to control the (super)weeds growing in the same fields, or 2.) generate their own internal pesticides.
GMO Awareness exposes that GMO’s have been associated with hundreds of health risks from allergies, chronic inflammation and reproductive problems all the way to cancers and blood abnormalities.
It’s not easy to avoid all GMO’s, as Monsanto has once dominated and mandated genetically modified farming globally. Your safest bet is to assume all crops are genetically modified unless otherwise stated. Thanks to the NON GMO Project and its growing popularity, many products on the market today are becoming labeled and are striving to make the switch. Look for the NON GMO Project stamp on products before purchasing.
Skip the Artificial Dyes: Artificial dyes are all around us. (Let me clarify. Everywhere in the US. They are BANNED in Europe. They get it. Why? Because they have socialized healthcare, so they actually CARE about your health!)
For those who don’t know, I am referring to Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and many more. They are present in yogurts, candy, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, hair gel, hand sanitizers, pickles, baked goods, cosmetics and so much more. These toxic dyes and have been linked to tumors, cancer, behavioral disorders and allergic reactions. They serve no purpose (except to appeal to all audiences), so ditch them and leave them out of your shopping cart.
Purge The Parabens: Parabens are cancer-causing chemicals that are used to prevent microbe growth in everyday products. Parabens have also been linked to cancer, reproductive toxicity, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity and skin irriation. They hide in almost all of your cosmetics, hair care products, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, soaps, skincare and more. Check your ingredient list and make sure they are free of ethylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben and propylparaben. Methylparabens.
Living a little less toxic is not easy and it’s not quick, but it is important. Take charge of your body and health. We aren’t science experiments and we’re not disposable, even though major food companies may think we are. These 5 simple changes can be used as a great guide for you on your toxin free journey.
