Whether you made a New Year’s resolution or not, considering January 1st as a clean slate is a great place to start on your healthy lifestyle goals. What do you take daily to maximize your health and take care of your body? If you answered, “Uhhh….” or “Nothing”, then we have some work to do! I will share with you what have become staples in my kitchen that me and my family take daily.
1. Fresh, organic fruit.
This might sound simple, but it makes a big difference in creating healthy habits! Create a vibrant, beautiful fruit basket and leave it out on your countertop in plain sight. We currently have organic grapefruits and bananas in our basket. Great, quick go-to fruits are apples, blueberries, strawberries. These are so easy to grab on the go, so you won’t have any excuses to eat poorly during the day. Re-define your perception of “Fast food”!
A damaged gut is the source of multiple, multiple illnesses and discomforts. Treat your gut with care! Not all probiotics are created equally, so make sure you splurge and purchase a high quality probiotic. I personally choose Hyperbiotics for my family. They are not capsules, they are time-released pearls. The pearls reach deep into your intestinal tract where they are needed most. They will even reach your large intestine.
80% of your immune system is in your gut, and when probiotics (the good guys) are abundant in your body, it becomes harder for the disease causing bacteria (the bad guys) to settle in. Probiotics help restore beneficial bacteria for optimal digestive and immune health, help control yeast and candida overgrowth and promote daily relief from allergies, gas, bloating and constipation. They are also helpful in improving mood, energy, sensitive stomachs, weight loss and improving metabolism.
You can purchase these darlings through Amazon here (They are Prime eligible!)
3. Vitamin D
I blogged about this little ninja earlier in the week, which can be read here. Especially in the Winter time, this vitamin is extremely helpful in boosting your immune system, improving your mood and energy and contributing to your overall health.
4. Greens Superfood powder
Nothing truly replaces juicing fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, but when you’re constantly on-the-go and don’t have time to break out the juicer, consider a quality greens powder. My family uses the brands Amazing Grass, Vibrant Health and Activa Naturals. I also buy junior greens for my 3-year-old son. You can check them out here . But more importantly than the brand, is what is inside. Make sure your greens are gluten free, Non GMO, organic and raw. Also, make sure there are no hidden sugars or sweeteners. We want to alkalize our bodies, not bog them down with acidic sugars. And no, they don’t taste bad. I add them to some naturally low in sugar, organic juices and they taste perfect to me. Even to those novice’s who aren’t used to greens, they won’t come off as dirt to you. I know you can handle it! Relax, and power up!
5. Ginger Root
It may not be the most attractive root in the world, but its benefits make up for its less-than-lovely looks. This aromatic, pungent, zesty root has a plethora of amazing benefits that range from boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation in the body, gastrointestinal relief and has even been reputably noted to prevent cancer cell growth. Hey, like I said, looks aren’t everything!
I finely grate this root and add it to smoothies, juices and even throw it in a nice detox bath!
Quick Tip: REMEMBER, leave all of these staples out in plain sight. It’s much easier to remember to take something daily when you can see it on your way out the door. Hiding these gems in your pantry or cabinets and always forgetting about them won’t do you much good!
Now, I’d like to hear from you!
What are your staples and how have they helped you maximize your health?
Thanks for letting me into your world awhile,
