There is no disputing that “Breast is Best”. The nutrition, immunity and overall health benefits have been astounding scientists around the world for many generations and has yet to be perfectly duplicated. But some mothers are unable to breastfeed for very valid reasons. Motherhood is difficult enough, and we need to support those moms who have decided that breastfeeding is not their journey.
Mothers still want what is best for their children. More and more, the clear-cut, black and white option of breast milk vs. store bought formula has become less, well, black and white. Mothers love options, and they are realizing more and more that expanding their horizons may be beneficial for their child in more ways than one.

The Problem With Conventional Baby Formulas
Many Infant Formulas are Loaded With Sugar
Many infant formulas are more than 50 percent sugar — 43 percent being corn syrup solids, which means they’re also high in fructose. Metabolically, consuming fructose is very similar to alcohol on a chronic basis, so there appears to be a surprising similarity between giving your infant a can of soda, or a bottle of most conventional infant formulas.
Many Formulas Contain GMOS
More recently than ever, more reports of birth defects, organ failure, cancer, and other alarming health conditions have been associated with GMO consumption. Warnings now suggest that we should limit the use of GMO in baby products.
Babies are very sensitive to, well, pretty much everything. Breast milk is not completely safe either from GMOs if the mother’s diet is not NON-GMO. Reports show that Round-Up , the most widely used pesticide in the US, shows up in mom’s breast milk! Logically, if this is so, it must also be present in conventional formulas. The studies are still inconclusive on just how devastating these consequences can be long term.
Top Brands That Refuse To Remove GMOs from your baby’s food.
If you feed your baby one of the following three infant formulas, you are perhaps, unknowingly, feeding them GMO corn, sugar beets, and soy.
One of the widest used brands and often given out for ‘free’ at hospitals, this baby formula is made by Abbott Laboratories and chock full of genetically engineered ingredients.
Another baby formula often given out as ‘free’ samples to new mothers. enfamil is made by Mead Johnson Nutrition. Their website boasts, ‘Enfamil, scientifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of newborns and infants.’ They weren’t kidding. Science at its best and loaded with GMO’s.
- Enfamil with Iron
- Enfamil with low Iron
- Enfamil Lacto Free
- Enfamil 22
- Enfamil Next Step (both soy and milk varieties)
- Enfamil Nutramigen
- Enfamil Pro-Soybee
Gerber Good Start
Gerber is made by Nestlé USA . The saddest part about this company is that they went GMO free in South Africa, according to Corporate Action America, but continue to sell American families the contaminated GMO formula.
That’s not fair. Why can’t we all have GMO free formula for our babies?
So, what’s a Mom to do if she can’t breastfeed?
If you have access to a donor database or know a trustworthy friend, donor breast milk is your next best option. If that is unavailable to you, consider making your own!
