When you start simplifying your diet and sticking to whole foods and ingredients, there are certain terms that will start to make your ears perk up. Some of them for me are “Low Fat”, “Sugar Free” and the worst culprit of all, “Lite”.
Once you begin to pay attention to your food and what goes in it, you will realize that these terms may seem innocent, but they’re really nick-names for chemical concoctions and an “in” for piles of artificial sweeteners, thickeners & stabilizers.
Dunkin Donuts recently came out with a new version of their frozen Coolata drinks, sticking that big, fat “Lite” label on them.
Dunkin Donuts boasts:
Same Flavors. Fewer Calories. Coolatta Lite.
“A lower calorie option for your favorite Coolatta flavors, try a Coolatta Lite today! At least 33% fewer calories than regular Coolatta® varieties”
While desperately trying to create a facade for a light, healthy drink to stay slim, this drink is actually the exact opposite.
Arnold Palmer Coolatta Lite Nutrition Information: Vitamin A 0% – Vitamin C 35% – Calcium 2% – Iron 0%

These “Lite” drinks may start out cool with only 45 calories per serving for a small Arnold Palmer, but they are LOADED with toxic ingredients and artificial sweeteners.
4 Different Types Artificial Sweeteners In ONE Dunkin Donuts Coolatta!
Sucralose: Found TWICE in the Coolatta ingredient list. Sucralose is an artificial, highly processed sweetener that wants to be in the same category as “sugar” but is nothing more than a toxic chemical. There’s overwhelming evidence that consuming artificial sweeteners will likely wreak havoc on your body, causing side effects from neurological disorders like seizures all the way to gastrointestinal issues and anxiety and depression. There has even been talk centered mainly around artificial sweeteners’ ability to impair your appetite regulation and leading to weight GAIN.
Acesulfame Potassium: ANOTHER artificial sweetener. (That’s 3 doses of fake sweetener in ONE Coolatta. Acesfulfame potassium is a potassium salt containing methylene chloride, a known carcinogen (Cancer causing substance). It is not the same thing as Aspartame, but quite often, BOTH are found in the same products. Reported side effects of this”sweet devil” are frightening: “Long term exposure to methylene chloride can cause nausea, headaches, mood problems, impairment of the liver and kidneys, problems with eyesight and possibly cancer.”
Erythritol: Guess what this is? If you guessed SUGAR. You win the prize! That’s right, if you lost count, this is the 4th dose of sweetener in ONE Dunkin Donuts Coolatta.
Dextrose: This is OUT of control, as dextrose is YET ANOTHER processed ingredient considered as a sugar in foods. Due to the sweet nature of the compound, it’s most likely to be included in sugary snacks and desserts. It may also be included in seemingly unsweet foods like pretzels and crackers, however.
Perservatives, Thickeners & Stabilizers
If my Coolatta is being made fresh to order, why does it need preservatives to keep it from spoiling? And what’s with all of the thickeners and stabilizers? Are we building a concrete house or making me a frozen drink?
Potassium Sorbate: Potassium sorbate is a potassium salt version of sorbic acid, a naturally occurring polyunsaturated fat. It was initially derived from the mountain ash tree, when the French discovered it in the 1850s. Today, it is created synthetically and largely employed as a food preservative.
Although the FDA, consider this preservative “generally safe”, it has been linked to hypersensitivity, allergies of the mouth, throat, eyes and migraines.
Thickeners/Stabilizers: These are highly chemically processed agents that serve the sole purpose of thickening up your food or beverage. There were a wide variety found in the ingredient list. Ester Gum, Cellulose Gum, Acacia Gum, Dextrose & Xanthan Gum.
Natural Flavors: Let’s just call this term the “Mystery Meat” of the Dunkin Donuts Coolatta. Companies can still get away with this broad term, disguising many many mystery ingredients that most likely are anything but “natural”
What’s Left In My Dunkin Donuts Coolatta?
Umm, not much. We are left with a huge pile of synthetic sweeteners, preservatives, chemically processed stabilizers and thickeners and the oh-so-mysterious natural flavors. The only ingredients that are even remotely familiar are pear juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate and black tea.
As you can see, the new Dunkin Donuts “Lite” Coolattas are ANYTHING but “Lite” and filled with an enormous amount of toxic ingredients, proven detrimental to your health.
Steer CLEAR of The COOLATTA!
