October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink themed events are blasting out full force this month in an effort to “Find a cure!” to breast cancer and push that crucial message that “Early Detection is Your Best Protection!”. Women and men gather everywhere sporting pink socks, pink bracelets and pink water bottles in a pink 5k fun run, fundraiser or breast cancer themed “pink-athon”. I will admit it, I used to be one of those people.
On the surface, this seems like an amazing sentiment. Spreading awareness about breast cancer and the importance of getting your mammogram, the most popular early detection method instituted today. So, what’s the problem? It’s not that I don’t have empathy for breast cancer victims. In fact, my Grandmother and Great Grandmother both were diagnosed with breast cancer. Cancer is a terrible, terrible diagnosis and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. So why wouldn’t I roll up my pink sleeves and dive into this national campaign?
The fact of it is, that “Breast Cancer Awareness” is a corporate funded scam to get women into the doctor’s office and on to dangerous and invasive treatments that have been proven time and time again to cause more harm than good. I am FOR breast cancer education. I am FOR supporting breast cancer victims. I am FOR the truth. I am AGAINST painting the town pink solely for a profit without the genuine best interest of women with cancer in mind.

The History Of “Breast Cancer Awareness”
Back in 1991, a woman named Charlotte Haley began hand-making peach (note: not pink!) breast cancer ribbons in her dining room. To each packet of five ribbons, she attached a note that read, “The National Cancer Institute’s annual budget is $1.8 billion, only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up legislators and America by wearing this ribbon.”
Charlotte had a grassroots mission in spreading authentic awareness about breast cancer. She would hand out her peach ribbons at local supermarkets and soon, her ribbons made it into the hands of thousands and thousands of women and began receiving very public attention.
Self Magazine and Estee Lauder saw her ribbons, liked the idea and wanted to take her ribbons to a whole new, corporate driven level. They asked Hailey if they could use her idea and turn it into a world-wide campaign. Charlotte said no. She wasn’t interested in the corporate greed that would suck up this genuine sentiment and spit it out to millions. Self Magazine decided that they didn’t like the word “no” and were going to find a way around it. They changed the ribbon from peach to pink in their campaign, which complied with legal counsel, deeming that Charlotte’s permission was no longer necessary.
The corporate companies chose the new color, and the now iconic bubble gum pink ribbons we see adorning countless products every October are now the new, trendy statement of “Breast Cancer Awareness”
Breast Cancer Awareness Campaigns Funded By Those Who Profit From Cancer Drugs
A huge sponsor of national breast cancer month awareness is Astra Zeneca. Astra Zeneca is a global bio-pharmaceutical company.
Astra Zeneca’s mission statement reads, “The Foundation supports National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies that work together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease and provide greater access to services.” Astra Zeneca is the manufacturer of two cancer drugs (Tamoxifen and Arimidex) popularly recommended on the market. The ridiculous conflict of interest is so flagrant, it’s hard to ignore. Even more disturbing is that Tamoxifen is actually classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a known human carcinogen. Can you feel the irony?
The truth is that Astra Zeneca wants to support early detection for breast cancer, so that when innocent victims are diagnosed with cancer and turn to Tamoxifen and Arimidex, Astra Zeneca makes a ton of money off of them. That’s the harsh reality of it.
Mammograms Do More Harm Than Good
“Early Detection is Your Best Protection!”. It’s plastered everywhere, and I guarantee it’s plastered at that pink 5k you are running next week.
Early detection IS important, but the method of detection and plan of action needs to be revised.
The most popular method, mammograms, have been proven time and time again in highly reputable studies to do more harm than good and pose very little benefit to women in cancer prevention. A mammography is ionizing radiation. Recent evidence indicates that the lower-energy X-rays provided by mammography result in substantially greater damage to DNA than would be predicted by these models. Evidence also suggests that risk of breast cancer caused by exposure to mammography radiation may be greatly underestimated.
“Mammograms Cause Breast Cancer” Ben Johnson, M.D., D.O., N.M.D. & author of, “The Secret Of Health: Breast Wisdom” exclaims in the documentary, “The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest”. “We, as a medical society, are giving women breast cancer by demanding women get mammograms. Mammograms are not healthy for women. Women should not be getting routine mammograms”. See part of the clip referenced here. To add to this, there is no study done yet to negate that during a mammography, where the breast is smashed in all directions, that it does not break cell walls and spread any existing cancer cells. That is a potential risk all women should be aware of before going in for this routine procedure.
Supporting Studies: Mammography Is Not Beneficial
NY Times displays that “One of the largest and most meticulous studies of mammography ever done, involving 90,000 women and lasting a quarter-century, has added powerful new doubts about the value of the screening test for women of any age.”
The study found that the death rates from breast cancer and from all causes were the same in women who got mammograms and those who did not. And the screening had harms: One in five cancers found with mammography and treated was not a threat to the woman’s health and did not need treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery or radiation.
This is an important element to dissect. If a woman is diagnosed with stage 1 cancer or “Not even stage one” cancer, doctors are still prescribing toxic radiation, chemotherapy and sometimes even a full mastectomy, removing BOTH breasts! Then, five years later, the cancer comes back. There are tons of other, safer and more effective treatment options out there and available, especially when the early cancer diagnosis is not an imminent risk to the person’s livelihood.
The study, published in The British Medical Journal, “is one of the few rigorous evaluations of mammograms conducted in the modern era of more effective breast cancer treatments.” The study involved the participation of Canadian women to have regular mammograms and breast exams by trained nurses or to have breast exams alone, with no mammograms.
How you Can Truly Support Breast Cancer “Awareness”
So after reading this post, you might not be as excited to jump into your pink shoes and run across that Susan G. Komen 5k finish-line. I don’t blame you. But you still want to help, because you care. So how CAN you help? First, the awareness part is over. Everyone is aware of the rising risk of breast cancer. We need to focus on exposure and truth. We need to focus less on scaring women on the thought of cancer and focus more on empowering them to take charge of their health, their bodies and their breasts.
The recently publicized docu-series, “The Truth About Cancer, A Global Quest” is a fact-filled film including an exorbitant amount of cancer experts, medical doctors and healthcare professionals speaking about the truth about cancer and the real ways we can fight and prevent this awful disease.
Next, realize and educate yourself and others on the power nutrition, diet and lifestyle plays in feeding or freeing cancer. Our bodies are very delicate systems. What we put into them, we often get out. If we are eating acidic, high-sugar foods, our body is going to become a place that cancer can thrive. Science has proven time and time again that when we nourish our cells with alkaline-rich greens and healthy foods, our bodies will have the power to fight off cancer cells with the abundance of phyto-chemicals and antioxidants in our systems. My all-time favorite book, “The pH Miracle” by Robert Young explains in detail how our bodies react to nutrition on a cellular level. That book really changed my life and how I see food and health.
- Watch the TTAC docu-series yourself and then pass it along to someone who could benefit.
- Read, “The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health“ and pass it along to a friend in need.
- Speak out. Share this post and other materials you research on your journey. Don’t be afraid to use your knowledge as power to influence others who are not yet aware of the truth.
Love & Light,
